If you have a peanut allergy, you should take extra precaution when taking Fenugreek, a common herb found in most lactation teas and supplements, due to cross reactivity!

While lactation tea and supplements might be helpful in milk production, you should always consult with your doctor first, as with any medicine, if you have health concerns.

Before starting any lactation teas or supplements to help increase your milk supply, please understand that in order for those things to work your baby must be transferring milk well and you need to nurse or pump frequently. At the end of the day, your milk production is based on supply and demand. The more your baby nurses or you pump, it will signal your body to make enough milk to keep up with the demand.

People have used fenugreek for hundreds of years to treat many ailments and help with breastmilk production.

While it may have health benefits, those with chronic conditions and lactating people, should speak with your doctor and lactation specialist before starting fenugreek supplements.

SOME THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE USING FENUGREEK FOR MILK PRODUCTION

Fenugreek is a legume and has similar protein structure as peanuts. So those with peanut allergies should be extra cautious when considering taking supplements with fenugreek.

Fenugreek may act like estrogen in the body and be unsafe for people with hormone-sensitive cancers.

Use caution and speak with your doctor if you’re taking diabetes medications, such as insulin or drugs for hypoglycemia, as fenugreek may enhance their effects.

Fenugreek can thin your blood. Don’t use it if you’re taking blood thinners unless you’re under the direct supervision of your doctor.
